Welcome to Concordia Montessori!

We are currently enrolling for summer/fall 2013-14.  We have several openings in our Infant/Toddler Program for children who will be 13 months - 18 months as of September.  Our 3-6 program is fully enrolled for the 2013-14 school year.

Concordia Montessori is a small, private Montessori community
providing an affordable, quality, full-day educational option for children 13 months to 6 years of age in our NE Portland community.  We are the only school in Oregon fully recognized by the American Montessori Society (AMS), the largest and oldest Montessori certifying organization in the United States, and the only in-home program in the state recognized by either of the two major Montessori organizations (AMS or AMI).

Our Infant/Toddler Program is for children ages 13 months - approximately 36 months (at graduation).  This program, which opened August 1, 2012, is co-led by a credentialed (birth-6 years) Montessori guide and an experienced RIE inspired educarer.

Our 3-6 Community is for children ages 3 - 6 years old who are ready to transition out of the toddler community and who are using the toilet (mostly) independently.  This classroom, in its third year, is led by an AMI  credentialed Montessori lead guide and assisted by two AMS credentialed Montessori guides.

What We Do

We practice Montessori methods with a focus on following the child.
We maintain an environment rich in opportunities for discovery and mastery.
We incorporate French language study and practice into our daily routines.

We provide each child with lessons and activities that meet their needs and interests.
We offer a strong, hands-on ecology curriculum and are an eco-certifed program.
We assist students to plant, harvest, and prepare the bounty produced in our gardens.
We foster independence, accomplishment, friendship, courtesy, curiousity, caring and self-direction.
We enjoy fine music, art, and literature with our students.
We discuss the world and learn about the great peacemakers.

Both of our locations are located in the Concordia neighborhood, two blocks from Faubion Elementary School.  Our schools are located in residential dwellings dedicated to providing authentic Montessori environments.  Our infant/toddler program offers a maximum enrollment of 10 students in an intimate, comfortable and enriching setting with a maximum ratio of 1:5.

Our 3-6 Community offers a maximum enrollment of 16 students, with a work-period ratio of 1:5 and an afternoon ratio of 1:8.  This program offers great opportunity for exploration in our indoor and outdoor classrooms.  Both communities participate in our urban farming program. French and Suzuki guitar instruction are also offered in our 3-6 environment.

Concordia Montessori is committed to being a caring, safe community in which children, their families and our staff demonstrate mutual respect and responsibility within and beyond the classroom. Our curriculum strives to stimulate interest and exploration in language, numbers, music, movement, art, culture, and the natural world

We proudly use Montessori materials made of GREEN lumber that are certified as free of heavy metals and serve organic, whole food meals and snacks that are fresh and nutritious.  We believe fresh air is food for growing minds and ‘go out’ daily in all seasons.  Our outdoor spaces offer shelter to encourage comfortable outdoor experiences and movement throughout the rain of winter and the heat of summer.

Please visit our contact page to get in touch to schedule an interview.
